Sitework Estimating Services

Our sitework estimating services cover all ground-level construction activities including bulk earthwork cut and fill calculations, fine grading, soil import and export hauling, aggregate sub-base installation, asphalt and concrete paving, curbing, sidewalks, retaining walls, and site utility trenching. We use plan contour data to calculate 3D earthwork volumes and organize quantities by construction phase for efficient scheduling.

How We Estimate Sitework Estimating Projects

01

Review civil grading plans, existing/proposed contour elevations, and geotechnical reports

02

Calculate cut and fill earthwork volumes using grid or cross-section methods

03

Quantify aggregate base courses, soil stabilization, and geotextile fabric areas

04

Measure paving areas (asphalt, concrete), curbing lengths, and sidewalk quantities

05

Deliver earthwork volume summary, paving schedule, and marked-up civil plans

Common Sitework Estimating Project Types

Typical construction project types that require professional sitework estimating services.

Commercial Site Development

Mass grading, parking lots, drive aisles, loading docks, and landscape areas for retail, office, and warehouse sites.

Residential Subdivisions

Lot grading, road sub-base, driveway pads, and common area improvements for housing developments.

Industrial Pads & Yards

Compacted fill pads, truck courts, equipment staging areas, and heavy-duty paving for industrial facilities.

Sports Fields & Recreational

Athletic field grading, drainage sub-systems, track surfaces, and recreational facility site improvements.

Sitework Estimating Challenges We Solve

Balancing Cut and Fill Volumes

We calculate net cut/fill balance to determine whether soil export or import is required, directly affecting hauling costs which can be a major budget line item on large sites.

Subgrade Conditions & Soil Types

We reference geotechnical borings to identify soil types and apply appropriate compaction factors and shrinkage/swell percentages to earthwork volume calculations.

Phased Construction Sequencing

We organize sitework quantities by construction phase so contractors can plan equipment mobilization and material deliveries without idle time between phases.

Sitework Estimating Takeoff & Estimating FAQ

How do you calculate earthwork cut and fill volumes?expand_more
We use either grid method or average end area method depending on the site complexity. Existing and proposed contour elevations from the civil drawings are compared to calculate net volumes of earth to be cut (removed) or filled (added) at each grid point.
Do you include soil import/export hauling in sitework estimates?expand_more
We calculate the net volume of soil that needs to be hauled off-site (export) or brought in (import) based on the cut/fill balance. The actual hauling cost per cubic yard can be adjusted by the contractor based on local disposal site or borrow pit distances.
Are utility trenching and backfill quantities included?expand_more
Yes, if the civil plans include utility plan/profile drawings. We calculate trench excavation volumes, bedding material, pipe zone backfill, and compacted trench backfill for water, sewer, and storm drainage lines.
