Construction Estimating Services in Minnesota

Minnesota civil and building contractors can request remote takeoffs and priced estimates. Heavy/highway bidders should supply the wage package and truck-rental basis alongside haul information. A material volume does not establish the number of truck hours, rental inclusions or classification of every activity on the site.

Send plans, specifications, addenda, trade scope and your deadline. Agree Excel quantities, priced trade breakdowns, color-coded PDF markups and assumptions/exclusions in the proposal. Document completeness, trade count and revisions affect fee and delivery; rush capacity requires confirmation. Estimating excludes design, approvals and legal or tax advice.

Separate measured excavation, purchased aggregate, truck operation and labor hours. This lets the contractor review hauling and classification assumptions without changing the underlying earthwork geometry.

Highway truck rental has a separate certified input

Minnesota DLI certifies minimum truck-rental rates annually for highway construction projects and publishes truck-operating-cost survey resources.

Send the applicable certification, truck types, haul routes and supplier load units. Request a distinct haul/rental line with contractor-approved cycle time and inclusions. Do not convert a published minimum into an actual vendor quote or assume a rental rate includes every driver, fuel or equipment cost without checking the project basis.

Heavy/highway wage schedules are not a building labor average

Minnesota DLI publishes highway and heavy prevailing-wage rates separately and provides previously certified rates on request.

Supply the contract-assigned certification and classifications, then map site tasks and estimated hours to that basis. Keep the material purchase, operator labor and rented truck costs distinguishable so the same cost is not counted twice. Contractor or agency confirmation governs coverage and classification; payroll services are excluded.

Prepare the Minnesota estimate package

Wage and truck-rental certifications
Retain separate contract references for labor and hauling.
Truck types and haul assumptions
Name capacity, route and client cycle-time inputs.
Earthwork surfaces and material tests
Document quantity conversions supplied by the engineer or contractor.
Aggregate quotations and load units
Reconcile purchased tonnage with measured placement.
Bid items and staging calendar
Separate phased haul or temporary-stockpile assumptions.

Specify the returned breakdown

Request civil quantities with source surfaces, unit conversions, purchase tonnage and truck-hours assumptions in separate columns. A priced workbook should name wage and truck-rental certifications and clarify fuel/operator inclusions. Temporary stockpiles, rehandling and unsuitable-material allowances need their own scope or explicit exclusions.

Does a Minnesota truck-rental publication provide a supplier quotation?

No. It establishes an official certified input for the described highway program. Actual quotation terms and contractor cycle-time assumptions still need to be supplied and checked for overlapping driver or operating costs.

Can measured earthwork volume be used directly as haul cost?

It needs documented material conversion, truck capacity and cycle-time inputs. Send geotechnical and contractor assumptions; the takeoff does not invent density, swell or a haul route.

Confirm scope and next steps

We quantify supplied designs and documented assumptions. Engineering, architectural/MEP design, stamping, inspections, permit approval, code certification, AHJ representation and legal or tax advice are excluded. Missing details become questions or agreed allowances.

Review deliverable requirements (public client samples remain pending permission).
